He might be able to grow back some or parts of his fins with time. You want to be careful of infection right now. Acriflavin was a good choice for the QT. You'll want to watch for white fuzziness (that's a technical term ) around the fins or redness. Heavy breathing might be a problem and you want to be sure he keeps eating. Add vitamins to his food every single time he eats. A dip in methyline blue could help him heal as well.... if you feel it's needed.

Ok thanks for the info. We'll keep a close eye on him and watch for anything that may change. And ok I'll have to see if we have any vitamins and if we do we will add some to his food.

Need to read up on your fish you never want to put to species of fish that will fight. You have quite a bully in your tank. Fish can grow some fins back but not when placed in a tank with a bully fish. I have had to care for many a puffer as they are purchased because they "look" cool sadly they are every often mistreated.

Well the one without fins was the first puffer we got and he was by himself. Then we got the bigger puffer and put him in our 50g with a emperor angle and clown trigger but the puffer was getting bullied and not eating so that's when we moved him with the other puffer. They were doing fine with each other so we didn't think this would happen. Now they'll never go in the same tank with each other ever again.

Will all those aggressive fish you are going to have a lot of issues. Need to have a lot of rock work for fish to hide away from fights.
All the fish you currently have need to be in large tanks like 160 gallon and up due to their nature they defend territory.

We have blue and green. I was going to do a dip with blue if he starts turning into a cotton ball.

The dip in the Blue is to help heal up the abrasions and cuts... it will help prevent the cotton ball.

All the fish you currently have need to be in large tanks like 160 gallon and up due to their nature they defend territory.

They are going into a larger tank in march it will be a 200-300. All the fish are in QT tanks at the moment and the least aggresive fish are going in first then after a week the next and so on. We already have it all planned out once the new tank comes in so we learned our lesson already.

As long as it's just the fin that is damaged and not the meaty flesh, he'll recover fine and should grow them back (though he'll never look quite as nice.) If it's into flesh, he will need antibiotics until he's healed up.

I don't recommend keeping more than one puffer together. They just aren't real friendly towards each other after they hit sexual maturity.

Well the one didnt make it that lost all his fins. But yes we learned our lesson and the big puffer will be with aggressive fish from now on and not with other puffers.
