My regal arrived this afternoon. She seems healthy. Placed her in quarantine with some of the live rock from KP aquatic. I’m not going to medicate her unless I see signs of disease.

So how was baby’s first night home?

She's still alive! She will hide in a cave I unintentionally created from the KP Aquatics live rock. Speaking of live rock....I am hearing a clicking noise once in a while from the tank she is in. No clicking sounds coming from the other quarantine tanks with the KP Aquatics live rock.

Happy Saturday!!!

Hmmmm hitchhiker perhaps. What type of heater you have in that tank?

Eheim 100w Jager. I believe it's a hitchhiker. I swapped QT tank locations before the Regal arrived. She is located on my desk in a 29 gallon tank.

Could it be the heater clicking on and off since it’s self contained? If not then you got a creature feature! lol

The 50 pounds of live rock that was in the 40b went into the new system in Oct
15 pounds from the new delivery KP Aquatics live rock went into the new system today! 😊
I have another 15 pounds of KP Aquatics live rock that will go into the new system. It is currently in the QT with the Regal Angel...along with the Green Monster! Regal is doing well...did I jinks myself? No meds so far. Before I transfer the last 15 pounds of live rock to the new system, I have to remove the Green Monster 🫣

BTW I am the worst story teller. You just brought up a long time memory. I had an elderly friend back when I was 22 years old. We would talk for hours on the phone. By the time I was 26 her phone calls changed. Dorothy's calls would go like this every time for the last 2 years of her life:
ME: picking the phone "Hello"
DOROTHY: "Hello, how are you, goodbye!" Dorothy hangs up the receiver
ME: Giggling and thinking to myself...it's the thought that counts

First thing that came to my mind was either Pistol or Mantis shrimp......and I've heard stories of KP rock coming with either or. However, the clicking could also be coming for any number of crabs. The mystery begins!

Ahhh crabs click too? I had no idea.

The last order I got from KP was two years ago and it had a Mantis baby that I didn't know it was in there for the longest time. Then months later I was losing fish from stabbings'. He was a little devil to find in a 40b, but I did and all ended well in the DT...not for him

@redfishbluefish Paul, any scary clicking crabs that are a concern in a reef tank?

It's not 100% accurate, but I'm a man and simplified crabs into two groups...smooth and hairy. If it's hairy, I don't want it. Some/most hairy crabs are the mean, nasty crabs. That said, when my kids were young they had land hermit crabs that used to click. What I'm saying, is if you find the crab and it's hairy, I'd get rid of it. I'm going to bet that you have a pistol shrimp....I think fairly common in KP rock.....just hope it's not a Mantis. Now, if it's a pistol, then get a Goby and everyone is happy.

I need suggestions on fishes that open swim in the middle of the tank. Needs to be Acro save.
Would Barlett Anthias (Pseudantias barlettorum) make my Wrasses hide? I love my wrasses so nothing that will scare them please. I don't like Pajama Cardinalfish. I had two of them in the 40b. I could have had two plastic Pajama Cardinalfish on fishing line and you wouldn't know the difference. They just floated in one spot. What are your suggestions guys?

I currently have:
  • Yellow Wrasse (Halichoeres chrysus)
  • Ornate Leopard (Macropharyngodon ornatus)
  • Radiant Wrasse (Halichoeres iridis)
  • Regal Angelfish (Pygoplites diacanthus)
Plan/thinking to get:
  • Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas)
  • 1 Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris)
