Today’s progess. I’m getting so bummed thinking of all the effort to build this out only 3 years ago.
Wife says not to worry - “onto bigger and better things”.

i just really, *really* despise waste like this.

That’s a lot of wood. I do remember that the nails put in with air guns are a ***** to get out. When the going gets tuff, the tuff get going.

Neil, I think your wife is a wise person. You are a luck man.

Here in Austin, we got up to 86 degrees today. I decided it was Spring and I planted early summer squash that I germinated 6 weeks ago.

All in- it’s $875 in today’s prices.

worth recovering if I can use even half of it in the new space.

We had a mild warm spot 6 weeks ago and our Bermuda grass and all the spring weeds have already grown and bloomed. I went into the old back yard the other day and almost burst into tears at the jungle mess. One screwed up treatment of preemergent and an early bloom, and 3 years of effort to remediate the lawn wasted.

we inherited a neglect lawn that hadn’t been worked on in years. I took soil samples to the local extension office and they gave me a remediation plan, all the way down to when to apply certain chemicals. Totally custom based on the seeds and amount present in the samples. Pretty cool

I knew I was in for a strict 3 year remediation before we’d see big gains, and this past couple month would have been the last of the treatments in the 3 year plan. So bummed.

anyway.

Woke up this morning with a bit of muscle soreness in my right hand from where I almost got zapped. Could have been way worse. So careless. I’m still beating myself up about it.

If you do enough home repair/ remodel work then sooner or later you will make a mistake, your just human. Glad it did not end up with you getting seriously hurt. Good luck in the new home.
Only thing I don’t really do is drywall- hate the sanding. I do most of the rest myself. Over tired, eager to get the house finished to sell and distracted by a podcast. Bad combo.

if that zap had sent me off that ladder, I’d still be lying there right now with rats eating my face. Stupid.

tell you what though- I made very sure the rest of the circuits were off 5-6 times before I even went near them with the cutters yesterday.

And, it’s gone.
Sad face.
now I just have to deal with the epoxy and self-leveling compound. I’m contracting it out because the appropriate safety gear isn’t available right now and the thought of 2-3 more days in that basement covered in dust and the noise is not fun

Lol

waited 3 days due a quite to grind off the epoxy, after 2 cancelled meetings and 4 hours late.
Bear in mind it’s a two hour round trip for me.

want to guess how much they are charging for 186sqft?

go on- guess. If you get within 5% I’ll pay your rent/mortgage for a month.

and still save money.

How
oof, you almost cost me a rent check

2750

I honestly was thinking $5-600 might be a bit high. Obviously I’m completely unaware of the realities of this kind of work.

so, at some point soon- I’ll be buying a 3lb sledge, a masons chisel, and renting a grinder

yeah- and I lost my wallet. Sucks. Twice in a year and a half. With the green card, that’s a $700 mistake. I’m hoping I can apply for the citizenship instead of a replacement GC- $450. Pretty much sucks up the savings made by reclaiming and reusing these materials

At some point after doing water changes on Saturday, my male onyx percula jumped out of the tank. I just found him this morning. I had the lid moved over to get into the filter box and I guess I left 3” gap.

So gutted. One of my favorites.

Literally sold our house in 23 hours, 7 offers over asking, couple escalations.

now we just need to get through the next couple weeks until closing, and I can start my new build
Some confusion on the part of the realtor about the ‘new’ escalation clauses (weird- we had one when we bought our first ATL house 4 years ago...) which has literally cost us $7K. Her mistake means the asking price got capped lower than we actually contractual authorized her to command, and she ‘forgot’ we had two competing offers that should have escalated, but she did t. She closed out after the first round. Anyway, Disappointed, and they will make good on half, but left a bitter taste in our mouths. That’s a lot of money. However, we did pretty good overall, so are eager to get it closed out.

Just for alignment purposes so I can make the hanger boards for the stand and two for the basement walls. I have a 90 degree turn I need to take in order to line up with the settling tank, so I’m reusing sections with flex pvc that I recovered from the old build.

this week I plan to drylok paint the two concrete walls (light blue), and install the recovered painted osb panels. Following week make and hang the equipment boards and run the drain line around the back of the sump to the QT room.

katie is taking the girls to her parents for the first week of may to give me 100% focus time on getting the tank filled, tested, running and transferred, so hoping to have it buttoned up by may 7th.

Got the first coat of Drylok on the first wall. That stuff is horrible. Really thick and needs brushed in with a masonry brush.

I should have spent the extra $50 for the extreme version and sprayed it but didn’t want to splurge on this part of the build.
It also looks a bit lighter than I had hoped.
