I am using an apex auto feeder currently with new era flake food in it. I see a lot of folks use pellets because they have less PO4. But I wonder if this matters because when I feed pellets they all seem to sink before my fish eat them. So my question from an excess nutrient perspective is if flakes float but get eaten how bad can it be compared to pellets which sink and rot???

There are probably a lot of variables that come into play here. What type of fish you have and the nutritional value of the specific flake/pellet foods you're feeding. That being said, I would avoid auto feeders like the plague; I've heard too many "nutrient issues" from folks using them... just my two cents.

Interesting any other folks not like auto feeders?

Honestly haven't used them before because of all the bad stuff I hear. If you can try and get them on pellets, it might take 3 months of trying. My water quality has less swings now.

I have debated a auto feeder but can't take the leap because of what I have read. I feed a combination of pellets and meaty frozen for my fish. I was on strictly pellets but then the fish started stealing food from my nems and plate when pot feeding which I took as a hint. Went back to a combination and they stopped.

I am currently feeding the flakes 2x a day from the ATS and frozen for a third feeding. All small amounts so far still have good quality water.

The more I think about this what's the different if you use an auto feeder or feed manually 3x a day. So is there a true difference between flakes that are possibly high on PO4 or pellets that sink and are decaying
