How long did it take people's flame scallops to settle down in a spot. I am aware of the amount of food they need and am ready to accommodate that, but I've had him for a month and he keeps moving and leaving big piles of poop everywhere.

I had three, the one that survived long term disappeared in my 180 until I moved I found it hiding in the back! Took a week or so to disappear from what I recall.

Depending on the tank qt or DT, they tend to move more often in the qt usually takes about 3 days to find a spot ( it's a 20g) the DT however within minutes they have settled, and one of the 3 moved recently after 12 months or so in the same spot but only moved inches ( it's a 12' long tank) they've all been open & extended since day 1. I have another electric flame scallop and a regular scallop going into the DT in about 2 weeks.the flame scallops do shy away from light

Nice, especially that you've had one for over a year as I hear that they are hard to take care of. Mine finally settled down after I got rid of my damsel, so I think he might have been getting picked on

I've had mine for ~4 months and it has moved between 5 spots in my tank every couple weeks..

. I thought I'd try the scallops ( they are considerably less expensive than clams)& if I could keep them. Then I'd try clams, so far so good, 1-3 clams are on the list of near future additions. I will definitely be getting a couple more spiny oysters. Also I've had a lot of advice from various forums some qualified experts Here At reef2reef. Regarding everything reef. Cheers
