could a flashlight fish live in a reef tank? I know they're reef safe, im not worried about it eating coral, more on how it will react to the lighting.

I think they require a species only tank given their low light and lower temp requirements. Here is an article that may be helpful

so yes, but with lots of hiding places? Also could one live in a 65g

What part of that article says "yes" to you?

Beyond the 72-74° preference to keep the bioluminescent bacteria alive, most corals like a nice and warm 78°

That article screams species or biotope only tank, cold water, etc... If you have the experience, knowhow, and time you might be able to pull off an NPS tank. A standard reef looks like a no to me.

Agree with this. To me, this would be a lot of work to create the biotope. If you go for it, please post up a build thread to share your experiences.
