Hey guys!

Just bought a beautiful flower pot Goni from critter hut and the price was great. He has been in the tank for about 24 hours and still hasn't opened. I know they are a trickier coral. Is this normal or am I missing something? I just moved him to see if that would help. Any advice would be great! Thank you

Put it in a low flow area. How did you acclimate? They're pretty hard coral to keep. Green ones usually don't live. Red and pink ones will...

It was in the LFS store for about a month before I pulled the trigger. I did a drip acclimation for about an hour. I know they can require special food. Ok he's in low flow. That's a pretty dismal outlook. Why do they not keep well? Where there's a will there's a way!

From the ones that I have bought, that is pretty normal. I just bought one the other day, it's so so so beautiful. It didn't open up for about 2 days. Now it's open, full, and wavey. One of my favs. I have a small frag of a pink one that stays closed more than being open. But it does open. It goes through moods.

Mine likes higher flow. Took a day and a half to start opening. Goes in at nite and I don't feed anything but coral frenzy once a week.

Wow these guys are gorgeous! I will keep trying different spots or should I move him? In the store he was right in the front of the tank on the gravel and there was just one power head for the whole tank. I will try some gonipower I saw Justin's write up. Thanks for the input guys!

No need to move him if he isn't open yet. Remember it does need time to acclimate to your lighting and your overall tank conditions. Give it time. :xd:

Good call! It's killing me to see him! The flowers will peek up a little but that's it. My nitrates are a little high. Just picked up two phosban reactors to help bring nitrates down. Or maybe I should stop being lazy on my water changes :p !

I feel like each one has its own personality... I have one right now that loves high flow... But there are times when he'll close up for a couple days and other times when he inflates his whole body like a ballon

It's gorgeous! It opened up more today like the flower themselves were visible but only a little of the stem or neck of the flower.

These are actually alveopora, close to goniopora but a little different and easier. Note the 12 "tentacles" per polyp where the goni has 24.

I never had luck with goni's, never tried an alveopora. After figuring out (hopefully straightening out) some interesting elemental type things with my tank, I'm interested to try again.

Flower pot is doing good, it opens (not fully) but it seems to open a tiny bit more every day. I will post a picture. I hope Phil is watching over my tank.

Just took this shot. I've seen him come out about twice as much. Still never fully extended.

Is the lighting in your tank different than the stores? What type of flow was it in in the store... I would think you should have started to see some extension by now
