Fluval 13.5 Nano First SW Tank

I just got one rock for now while things cycle.

Will get more when I can add corals..

Speaking of corals. What are good corals for the stock Fluval light. Seeems realllllllly WHITE... Is the blue light setting worth using?

Would suggest to get some rocks in there during the cycle. The purpose of cycling is to populate the rocks with beneficial bacteria. If you add rocks later, the tank will cycle again.

The tank comes with a 16 watt light which is not strong. To give you some perspective, a popular replacement light is the AI Prime which is 55 watts. So the current light will work for low light corals such as mushrooms and zoa's.

I had a BTA anemone and hammer, zoas, shrooms etc. yes controllability is limited. there are upgrades that fit the stock hood.

I just finished cycling my 13.5 again( third time setting it back up after upgrading) this time as a dedicated BTA tank and have a nicrew 100w above it.

Your tank is perfectly fine! It's just the light can be stronger is all. I have seen many fluval 13.5 tanks on here and you can do a lot with them.

edited -----i would not run a prime personally. only reason i have the nicrew above mine is it was on my other tank i took down. you can run the stock light for a long time.

Is the marine 3.0 from fluval worth getting? Id like to keep a lid on it to combat evaporation. But if i read right. Id have to dirch the lid for a better light

That's not what that member was saying, and that's not true at all. That Fluval kit is a very good way to get started, many run that tank.

It comes with a light that can grow the easier, lower light corals like mushroom and Zoas and more. It's absolutely fine to get started with.

Your tank could likely use a bit more rock, but you can absolutely start cycling it now. The beneficial bacteria will also populate on your sand too.

Your stock light is fine for the foreseeable future. It takes about three weeks or so to cycle a tank and you don't need a light for that at all. And your light will grow many corals that most beginners are looking to try anyway.

In time, you can add to or upgrade things as needed, but there's no rush. I get a lot of my gear used too.

don't worry about your light for 6 months at least. only thing i would do is get a timer to plug the light into to turn on and off at set times.

you have white and blue/ white only/ and blue only. i just ran mine on the white and blue setting
