Morning guys,

New to reef2reef after setting up my first marine aquarium (pic attached).

I’m in the process of making a few upgrades after a lot of research and just getting your guys take on it.

1.Return pump - swapping the stock pump for the Eheim compact 1000 for more turnover.
2. Adding Powerhead - Koralia 900
3. I’m not running a protein skimmer after careful thought and research. Instead, I’m creating an InTank basket for chamber one which will include
- filter floss
- additional bio ceramic media
- chemipure blue nano

can I ask if chemipure blue nano is advised by you guys? I’ve heard that carbon is very good at creatng clear water but it dies eliminate useful trace elements from a tank. Any advice or substitute would be appreciated.

What do you guys think?

Cheers,
Ben

Hello, welcome to Reef2Reef! I like your new tank.

With weekly water change you can do without protein skimmer. The cleaning of the filter wool should be done frequently and should be checked. I don't know chemipure blue nano. But carbon is very good filter material for cloudy water and in removing drug residues. After a while (usually 2-3 weeks later. It changes from product to product) it has no effect and begins to release.
Rocks shouldn't touch much to sand. Biggest need for me in this hobby "auto top off". Again for me, it is very difficult to follow the missing water...
Sorry for bad English.

I have same tank. I upgraded the return pump to a sicce and have the same hydor power head as you. That’s a ton of flow you don’t need anymore. I run the ps2 slimmer and made my own media chamber for number 2. Tank works great

Thanks @Rickybobby

what does your stock list consist of? Thinking of adding two platinum clowns and perhaps a goby. I’m of course wary of overloading the tank.
