Hello all newbie here

I have a fluval flex 32.5 with the AIO filter.
I recently swapped out the filter sponge with a inTank filter basket. I added the filter floss carbon media and bio ball media on one side. For the other side I’m trying to figure out if I should get another inTank basket. Or add a filter sock. If the sock is a good way to go any suggestions on which one and how to install it in the tank?
Thanks for any help

Welcome to R2R!

Filter floss and a filter sock serve the same purpose; mechanical filtration — assuming water is passing through them both efficiently!

Bio balls tend to be a bit inefficient in these saltwater tanks; a better option here would be rock rubble, or similar!

Do you have a protein skimmer of any description in the AIO compartment? If not, the second chamber you have free might be a good place for that, or a small refugium!

How did you swap the sponge for the basket?

I bought a filter 'upgrade kit' for my 32.5 Fluval tank. The image below shows how it should work but I find it ineffective. The main issue I have is that the tanks water flow is designed to go through the sponges, so there is less surface area for the pump to draw water from with this so-called upgrade kit, meaning the water has to climb all the way up and then down the various media. As a result, more water is passed through the bypass chamber towards the bottom and the water at the top becomes stagnate.

I have been switching back and forth between this 3d printed filter kit and the original sponges. With the sponges I can see the water at the top spinning more, and when I clean the sponge off, it always looks nasty because it does a better job filtering waste. I personally think the sponges are better after going back and forth between the two for several months now.
