Foam block required in GFO Reactor?

I have a BRS GFO reactor that I put Rowaphos in. The foam piece always fills up and slows flow to a stand still before its used up. Is the foam required?

Try putting less rowaphos in the reactor . Or add a prefilter prior to the gfo canister
