Probably overthinking this but I replaced the carbon in my reactor (about a cup or so) but realized I never rinsed it. I have a juvenile Tomini tang growing out in my cube - would the fines settle out into the substrate, or should I perform a water change? It's a mid grade carbon so dustier than pressed granules.

Thanks, sorry if this is a silly question.

My tomini has never had an issue with carbon. I do rinse mine. I had an A. pyroferus that was extremely sensitive to carbon and I could not run even the ROX 0.8 stuff. It would show signs of HLLE within days of adding it, and would reverse almost as fast after removing it.

I wouldn't do anything drastic just yet. Watch your fish closely and if it shows distress then remove the carbon. If not, I'd say you are ok. Always a good idea to gently rinse in the future. ;)

No - that's a valid question given the issues with carbon dust and HLLE. However, tomini tangs don't get HLLE as often as many other tangs do, and water changes don't remove fines very well anyhow. I'd just rinse the carbon well from now on.....
