SOS!
I've done countless reading on many of the hydrogen sulfide threads on here to no avail.
Over the last 3 days, there has been a foul smelling odor coming from the aquarium stand. It's stinking up my house! Perhaps Hydrogen Sulfide?
It's a 2 year old AIO tank with the sump attached to the rear of the tank itself so the stand cabinet just holds my supplies, UV sterilizer, Doser and ATO reservoir.
The smell is definitely not coming from my tank itself.
But as soon as I open the cabinets for the stand, we get that strong smell in our face.
What we've done so far:
- smelled the tank water and it smells fine
- checked the protein skimmer (smells fine)
- cleaned the filter sponges (smells fine)
- checked the ATO reservoir (smells fine)
- sand bed is not deep (1.5 deep) has been cleaned the same way it has been for past 2 years
- no dead corals or fish or snails
- Loaded the sump with fresh carbon
- smelled the water coming out of the UV sterilizer (smells fine)
- I felt the smell was coming from the UV sterilizer chamber so last night we took it apart and took a whiff but it smelled fine. Rinsed it out and assembled it together again. We felt the smell got a bit better but woke up this morning and the smell is still there.
Gonna try and disassemble the UV sterilizer again today and clean it out with vinegar and water for good measures.
Help!
