While visiting my sister in NY, I happened upon a couple of things in the beach that we went to in Rhode Island.

1-Some macro algea. Purple color. Flat leafed.

2-A crab. Maybe a baby snow crab?

Can anyone give me some info on these two?

That's very cool looking algae!

I wonder if it will survive the temperatures in a reef tank? I'd sure give it a try. I don't remember ever seeing anything like it in the Florida Keys.

I had this type of algae growing in my reef tank once. It is very fast growing and very very invasive. It attaches to your rock work and it is extremely hard to remove. You are better off growing it in a separate reactor where you can remove it easily when need be.

That does look like a Spider Crab. I bring them up all the time when I'm bottom fishing for Fluke or Porgies, they get big. Surf fishing I see that algae wash up on the beach, quick search and it looks like Chondrus crispus Irish Moss.
