Frag Tanks... small, medium, large... let's see 'em..

Sweet frag tanks everyone. I hope mine looks just as nice when i set mine up. What lightings would u guys recommend for a frag tank 24x 18 x 8. Was thinking of getting a Tek T5 24" fixture?

In the above two pics you may notice the piece sticking out. I call it the stabilizer bar. That will be used to fasten it to the wall to prevent and forward to back rocking/movement.

Front finished. Top door to access prop tank, bottom door to access sump from the front.

Front/ Right Finished. I don't have room to put a swing style door on the side. I got rig something where you see the circles on the four corners that will allow me to quickly remove the side panel. Hood pins like on a carbon fiber car hood? wing nuts? we'll see.

Wow thats a very nice design you have there zoaINhawaii. Im going to buy my dad a 55 gallon for the Holidays so for a short period of time its going to look like a frag tank.

How is this working out for you? I saw these at tractor supply and gave it some thought, but felt it would be too shallow. What kind of corals are you keeping in this setup? Also, i assume because of the sloped sides, and all the hoses that are visable you went it a closed loop.

Looks like, if you have to room for it, it can be a very nice way to do it, and i remember correctly, very econimical.

no problems at all in here. We keep just about everything. Only three lights over a ten foot tank gives plenty of different par levels and the flow is pretty varied throughout the tank as well. As far as flow goes it is all through two two inch drains, no closed loop. Although that would be very easy with these "tanks"

Can't remember if we ever posted pics of our setup. This was taken earlier this year before all the lighting was done and before everything got so crowded. Nothing pretty but it's functional.

frag tanks

All I have is frag tanks, it's how I'm learning and preparing for my first big display. Tank one is predominantly zoa's/paly's and LPS. Along front are the few SPS I have recently bought to begin that learning curve. Tank 2 are acans, rics and ducans.

Great tanks everyone!


We have a limited space to grow in so we try to use every square inch in our prop tanks. All these tanks are in one room and we have no display tank. All of our tanks have no center braces and only the 6x2.5 tank has euro-bracing.

1: 2.5x6'x15" deep Left side 400w 14k Reeflux MH, right side 175w 14k Iwasaki MH (burns more like a 12 or 10k) with Lumenbrite reflectors. We have one return outlet towards the left center of the tank and two large powerheads on each end so all areas of the tank get lots of circular flow. Our photoperiod is 12 hrs and we feed the tanks about 3 times per day.

2: 2x3'x14" deep. This started out as more of a holding tank that I now use to grow out a lot of softy frags. We will be upgrading the lights to MH soon as it just has 4 T5's at the moment.

3. 3x5x15" deep. Part of this tank has a built in sump like the first tank. Lighting 1: 250w 14k Phoenix HQI, really needs to be changed. Out of the three tanks, this one holds the most of our "display" stuff. However we will be switching this tank over to prop only within the next month or so.
