Hello Fellow Reefers,
I have a question regarding polyp bailout.
My frogspawn has dropped nearly 2/3 (~40) of its polyps over the last six months or so, and continues to do so. I’ve had this coral for 10+ years and it’s always been an easy keeper.
Things to note that may be contributing to bailout.
-I had an overgrowth of Anthelia which i rip-cleaned out about 5 weeks ago.
-running carbon 24/7
-I have a serious outbreak of what I believe to be Cyano (no definitive ID) for six months or so.
Tank is 50 Gallon set up Feb 2021.
I use only RO water; 0 TDS
Temp 78
SG 1.025
Alk 8.9
Cal 420
Nit 10-15 (dosing NeoNitro daily)
Phos .25 (running phosBond in reactor)
Mag- IDK, I have trouble with the color
Titration test.

I have been trying unsuccessfully for months to get rid of the Cyano by raising nitrate and lowering phosphate. I cut back on water changes; now changing ~5 gallons a week with Reef Crystals.

I’m currently trying a 3 day blackout period.

Questions for the crowd,

Could the excess anthelia have caused the bailout or is is likely that the Cyano is a factor?

One member here posted that bailout is all about LPS ibeing unhappy with the water chemistry- and I was wondering if I should do a large (say 30 gallon) water change?
Any ideas would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Yeah- I took out most of the invading anthelia and the frogspawn is still dropping heads like crazy. I put in an order for some live rock through TBS- I’m hoping some fresh rock will help out?

Do you have any shrimp? I noticed when my frammer was closed up more that my peppermint shrimp were picking at it at night, looking for bits of food to steal.

If everything you tried is failing, move the Frogspawn to another tank if you have one, that could bring it back to live, but acclimate slowly.

No shrimp in this tank. I have moved a portion of the coral to another tank-and hope for the best.
Thank you for the suggestions.
