On Thanksgiving, my wife and I entertained 12 people at our house. About halfway through dinner I get an alarm on my APEX for low pH (below 7.8). My reef normally runs a pH of 8.1-8.4 because of the kalk I dose in my ATO. I'm panicking and racking my brain as to what could be causing this? Finally, it dawned on me that all the extra people and extra CO2 in the house was causing the drop in pH. My suspicions were confirmed when later in the evening, after everyone had left, my pH steadily climbed back to its normal range.

I was amazed at how fast the pH dropped with the extra CO2 in the house. It took about 4 hours from when everyone started showing up to get the alarm on my phone. Anyway, just thought I'd share this funny observation.

It scared the heck out of me the first time it happened too. It is amazing how quickly it can happen and how quickly it corrects itself after the party.

Thanks for sharing the story...it may help someone from panicking when it happens to them!
