I'm looking to build some stands over my reef tank for some lights. I was thinking of using conduit but all of its galvanized. I know that has a zinc coating. That can't be safe long term with the saltwater eating away at it right? If not what are some other ideas to use for tubing? PVC won't be rigid enough. Thanks

Cast Iron Gas Pipe. I have 3/4" holding a DIY led fixture that is roughly 35lbs. No problems at all.

I sanded down all the pipe and coated it with Krylon Fusion.

I've used the condiut also without any issues, same process of cleaning and painting.

Paint it.

my lighting is suspended from diy hangers made from 3/4" emt conduit. painted white and has not shown any ill effects from saltwater. the emt straps I used to hold them to the back of the stand are not painited and they do NOT have any rust on them either.

Should be fine you could paint or put some type of clearcoat to protect metal.

+1 on the fusion to paint it. I ran this for a year before selling it and there was zero rust on any of it or any problems.

I used a galvanized spray paint primer, then a couple coats of spray Hammerite.
