TMC make a big thing out of the fact they gamma irradiate there foods. Am not a fan but yes I still use them along with other foods I make myself and here's why.

Arguments against gamma-irradiated food include concerns over potential nutritional losses, the creation of unique chemical byproducts, potential misuse to mask poor hygiene practices, and general consumer wariness.

Scientific and Health Arguments
  • Nutritional Degradation: Irradiation can reduce the levels of certain vitamins, particularly B-group vitamins (like thiamin) and vitamins C and E. While proponents argue this loss is comparable to other processing methods like canning or cooking, critics note that if eaten raw, irradiated food lacks the vitamin advantage of fresh, non-irradiated food.
  • Formation of Unique Radiolytic Products (URPs): The process creates new chemical compounds not typically found in non-irradiated food, such as 2-alkylcyclobutanones (2-ACBs). The long-term health effects and toxicity of these unique byproducts remain a subject of controversy and concern for some consumer advocacy groups, who argue they haven't been tested adequately.
