Have a question( getting back in hobby) & dont wanna make same mistakes!!
Measuring salt in a cup on a digital scale this for beginning tank!! What are the numbers i look for, say I have 50 gallon barrel if it's a half cup per gallon what would a cup of salt weigh?
Any suggestions will help im here to learn
Thank you

This article from BRS discusses how to weigh out your salt mix:

Please know that you will still need a good refractometer or hydrometer to double check the salinity of your mixed saltwater.

When I mix my water, I do not measure the salt. I dump in some salt, let it dissolve, and check the salinity. If it's low, I add more salt. If it's too high, I add more purified fresh water (RODI water). That's maybe not the most efficient way to do it, but that's how I did it when I was a kid, and I still do it that way today 🤪

Good luck!

Well I believe thats good advice if you mark what your findings are so you dont have to do that guessing everytime, I emailed rubbermaid(Brut Trash can) and they reply was to not use the brut can for mixing cause it's not food grade but I see alot of reefer using it so im ok w that

I have a 50 gallon plastic trash can I mix mine in. I put 7 scoops of salt (2-cup measuring scoop) which very commonly lands me right at 1.025 or 35ppm with my salt brand. I always measure to confirm and add a bit more salt or water as needed

ARE YOU READY TO CONFESS TO CRAZIEST, DUMBEST, FUNNIEST THING YOU’VE EVER DONE IN REEFING?
