Gate vs Ball Valve

Which of the two is better for reducing flow from an external return pump ?
 
Both will work. Gate valve will allow for finer tuning of the flow.

And finding inexpensive gate valves can be a real issue.
 
I like gates on the important and more critical valving. The ball valves are very tuff to adjust and get very hard to turn after a little while
 
As you can see, I like them.

I went with a gate valve on my current build for my return. It's so much easier to dial it in since you can make fine adj.
 
I agree, gate valves.

Salty Dog- where did you get the pipe bracket that's on the wall ?
 
Looks like in the first pic are orange (or bleached out red) and the bottom pic are red. I've never seen them before, so I was curious.
