I’m thinking about purchasing a generator in case of a power outage I don’t know anything about them. What kind of watts do I need? Any recommendations for 120 gallon tank with a M2 pump to MP 40s and three radion xr30 pro ? Thank you.

I personally use a Generac portable one, I believe it’s 10,000 watts running and 12,000 peak. Runs all my systems and I had a special plug installed out the outside of my house that will plug right in to run the whole house. Was about a $2000-$2500 investment but highly worth it.

I have a champion dual generator that has been able to handle everything I've thrown on it; tank, refrigerator, incubator, snake racks, etc. I can get you more specifics on it, but it wasn't one of the cheaper ones.

So for power outages you will need to keep your fridge and freezer going, I have a Champion 2000 watt inverter, it easily handles both and my tanks, I can go almost 12 hours before refilling.
I would get 50 foot length 10 gauge extension cords.
If you have to run the extension cord through a window I would put a Pool Noodle and cut a hole through the pool noddle.
Second sense you are in ca. it might be very difficult to purchase a generator. You might have to go out of state.
The laws are changing and you might get lucky with old stock on the shelf.
