gfo,carbon,bio pellets

I am running a brs dual reactor with gfo and carbon, I have been debating on switching to bio pellets..Wondering if I do could I just replace the gfo with bio pellets and continue to run carbon in the second chamber or do I need to just ditch the gfo and carbon if I make the switch? any help is greatly appreciated.

How long have you been running GFO?

Pellets aren't an instant switch and require a cycle period.... So when you get pellets take a 5 gallon bucket of tank water and run the pellets through just the bucket for a few weeks to cycle the pellets and get a good source of bacteria on them...

I look at GFO as more of an emergency temp solution versus a permanent thing.. You can run pellets in your dual reactor but it will prob be a pain.. Clog up frequently

Ive been running gfo since july when i set the tank up, getting tired of messing with gfo every month. If i switch to pellets when i cylce them in a bucket do i need to put any kind of filtration or flow on them.

Get your reactor and run it like a closed loop on the bucket.. This way it's just cycling the old tank water.. That will build your bacteria colony. And biopellets need to be topped off every 6 months or more....

Yea you need to slowly cut off GFO when you add the pellets to your system.. Don't just stop.. I'm sure that would give you a nice algae bloom.
