GHL KH Director?

Hi All,
I just picked up a Profilux 4 set with the black friday sale and am considering getting a KH Director with the sale too. For you guys that have the KH Director, what do you think of them? Does it require re-calibration of the PH probe every two weeks like the Alkatronic does?

I have one for about 6 months . The only issue that I had was not having the latest update. Also haven't re-calibrated probe since setting unit up . Takes a little time to get everything set up and running , follow the directions. There facebook page and the page on this forum are a ton of help .

You've had it up for 6 months without having to re-calibrate it? Has it stayed pretty accurate over that time? Do you have it controlling your alkalinity as well?

Yes accurate over time . When probes start to act up they usually go to the high side .
I was using the 4 th channel to add extra alk while I was fine tuning calcium reactor.
Also using stand alone doser with the kh director.
It would of been a nice feature if they added a way to read the alk tested on a screen in one of the units.
I have to hook up my computer to read the test .

I've had the kh director since it came out. It is a great piece of gear and I've had no issues with it. I test 6x per day and the kh director adjusts my dosing for me. Keeps alk always within .1 to .2 dkh. I haven't calibrated the probe in probably 4 months. It doesn't drift.

I have had mine since the beginning also. 6 times a day also making auto adjustments keeping my aklinity easily within .1 to .2 and with auto water changes daily. Have yet to readjust the PH probe or have an issue.

I monitor it from my GHL touch and the GHL app.

How much reagent and how much tank water does this thing use up?
Are you guys dosing a specific alkalinity agent, or can you use anything such as Red Sea alkalinity, or BRS alkalinity additives...?

Depends on your sample length of tube and how much you want to sample to be.

Right now on one tank it is 25ml and on the other tank it is 101ml.

You can use any alkalinity agent, BRS, Red Sea, Aquaforest you decide what you like.

It is great. I have two one is a older first gen as I like to say the first day it came out and then my second one. A third one is going to be ordered once my frag tank gets farther along.

Both have been spot on and working great. I would purchase again without any hesitation.

Both are set to adaptive mode and keeping my alkalinity within .1.

It took a while to dial it in to keep it to .1. What I learned was I needed to really know my daily consumption and then use the 80 percent rule.

When I turned on adaptive mode I reduced my dosage to 80 percent of the current value and then tweaked it.

It has never overdosed, never caused me any issues or grief, just time and patience to dial it in. I did monitor both tanks for 6 months before even turning on adaptive mode.

I had two issues with the older model, both documented on the forums. I had to replace the inner tubing and remove a filter.

PH probe maintenance is I calibrate it every 6 months :). I had to replace two of the older cover models on the doser, which was covered by warranty.

You will not be disappointed.

Forgot to also add I dose three part on the one system. This also is in adaptive mode, and has kept Mag, and Ca spot on. I manually check those once a month, but since I have dosing containers and see them daily I just see if they are all at the same level.

On the other I am using a calcium reactor.

Super helpful. The build looks solid. Something like that worth the investment.
Stand alone, test and dose and been in the market for some time.
100% agreed, you just need to dial in kh, all will fall in line.
I have 2 KHG for my main system and my frag tank. I like it great deal as well. But I want to tey the director.

How do you set it to automatically control your alkalinity?

Within the GHL connect you click on the KH, then choose on the top menu control then select the one you wish to use.

I use adaptive. Make sure you been monitoring for a while so you know what your daily consumption is :)
