Ive been wondering this for awhile but will having a glass cover on top or your tank block out any substantial amount of light trying to come through? If not what if it gets covered in salt from the evaporation?

Agreed, get a screen cover. Make sure you get screen with big holes though and not the typical screen you put on windows. You can get this from BRS or probably a LFS that specializes in saltwater.
