Going on vacation will copperband be fine?

I am going on vacation for 2 weeks and have a copperband in my 90 mixed reef... he only eats mussels from my grocery store... I can't get anyone to feed him at my home but can transfer him in a qt tank and have someone feed him everyday like that. It's a basic 10 gallon with a tidal 110 on it. She will most likely not take mussels out after she puts them in. I plan on putting some of my live rock into the qt tank so it's cycled and has bugs for him. Will he be fine with this basic setup without the mussel being removed? Should I just chance it in my reef tank that will have an auto feeder with pellets? Lmk thanks!!!

He also eats only parts of the mussels and spitts out some of the stringy stuff.

Feed him a ton before you go and I think there’s a good chance he’ll be fine in the main tank.

I would also put a variety of food in the auto feeder because maybe if he gets really hungry he’ll start eating some of it.

I tried to feed him mysis and all sorts of stuff for a weeks time without offering anything he almost withered away... I've never seen him actually picking at pods either he just looks at the rocks although I do suspect he does eat pods cause there are tons in my tank...

He is so picky he won't eat clam on a half shell it HAS to be mussels and or blackworms... he won't even eat the mussels that sf has.... or squid or krill or any brine or mysis. He is such a pain! Funny enough he was eating at the store but refuses now

maybe you should just get rid of him. That’s seems like a hassle.

Changing his normal environment and putting in smaller glass will just add stress. And if he doesn’t eat their, we have stress + hungry.

I’d ride that one out leaving him in the comfort of familiar territory, most cruise at night picking at rocks, or just when your not looking.

How long have you had the CBB? Does it have to compete with other fish for mysis and other food in the water column or is it just not interested? My two only eat frozen and live but they'll compete with big tangs for food. They will not touch pellet or flake.

I fed him before with a turkey baster when it had blackworms and I did the same with mysis and he just spat it out because he didn't like it. It has to be alive or on the rock/glass or something I think is the problem with him. I've tried mastick with the same result. I've had him a little over a year now. Technically he does compete for the mussel because all the other fish love it understandably.

I would not put him in a 10g, not only will this stress him out (stressed copper bands are easy to spot in small or QT tanks, they surf the glass like crazy) but not removing the clams will fowl the water even with live rock in it in such a small volume of water.

Pay a pet sitter to come do exactly as you ask. Doesn’t even have to have fish experience imo. I had my cat sitter feed my fish and double check stuff was running. It may be too late with the holidays for that though.

No he will not be ok in a 10 gallon! They go on a hunger strike when moved.

this was a couple of months ago but he survived the trip and died about 12 days ago. No idea how probably got constipated from ONLY eating mussels. I found a Moorish idol at the LFS that's eating frozen.... so tempted!!

Sad to hear it’s gone. What did you end up doing in the end? Did you have someone come and feed the fish while you were away?

I had someone come mid way and just drop a muscle in. He looked fine and was swimming like normal when I returned. He honestly would have been fine as I saw him more and more picking at isopod and copepods
