I ordered a fish from Divers Den and needed to get a 2nd one to get free shipping.. .got this hawkfish to go along but wondering what he really is? Is he a Yellow Hawkfish or Golden HawkfisH? Is he a Paracirrhites xanthus or Cirrhitichthys aureus?

Divers Den lists this as Yellow Hawkfish (Paracirrhites xanthus) but it doesnt look right.

Thanks!

I don't think that is paracirrhites xanthus. I have one and it looks like this. I could be wrong and maybe it is a region difference.

It's possible but that one appears to be all yellow and I don't see any white. The one you are asking about has some white coloration to it.

Very cool. I also have one of these and they seem to be quite rare. I had the ability to buy one and I have never seen one available since.

I think you have it right. Looks very much like a Caribbean spotted hawkfish but different color morph. Regardless, really cool fish. Nice find.
