Goniopora Help

I’ve been using a jar to target feed my goniporia coral. It’s been retracted since I first put it my tank. This morning after feeding it extended a little, which was really exciting because it was more than I’ve ever seen in my tank. I left the house and came back and it was retracted again. I’m hoping it was a good sign, but I was so excited and now I’m just disappointed that it’s back in. Any advice?

I've got a tempermental Goni that didn't really extend for two weeks after putting it in my tank. I've got another one that extended immediately. So maybe give it more time?

IMO they like flow, the polyps should be able to gently flow back and forth. Seeing it beside a mushroom I assume its a low flow spot, IME they close up if the flow is too low

I will, I’m committed to saving this guy. What color was the easier one? I hear certain colors are hardier than others.

I think it’s moderate flow, those mushrooms are tucked under a ledge in the other side of a cave wall. With it not wanting to come out do you think it would be better to give them more or less flow?

My cranky goni is the one of the left, kind of a green and pink color, and it still retracts if anything changes in the tank. The red goni on the right is always extended, no matter what I do to it.

Typically those red gonis are allot more forgiving. Just keep up the water quality and it’s a good idea to test and maintain manganese levels. Once I got Mn in check my gonis started doing allot better.
