Good deal or future problems?

Hi everyone,

I came across this Eheim aquarium setup that’s being sold for 220$ including some corals and anemones. which feels very cheap, so I’d love to get your opinions before I decide.

I am having doubts about the filter (left side of the tank) no sump.

Any thoughts? Would this fail or would this be a success? Or should I definitely purchase extra equipment for it?

It's not drilled and not an ATO, so you're looking at HOB equipment, which is doable, but I wouldn't set out to start this way (it would be different if you already had a tank and HOB gear). I don't believe that skimmer is going to be very efficient, and I don't think this setup can handle much of a bio load. You would also need more rock, both for filtration and habitat.

How about this? What's your budget? Are you only looking at used? Would you consider a small but brand new system to get you going, with less chance of something used breaking on your, causing greater frustration?

I already own a tank it’s a 70l tank, with a basic Fluval Aquarium filter AquaClear AC50, 757 LP, no skimmer and a cheap power head. It’s been running for 1,5 years and i never had problems with the parameters. Sadly i noticed that my pulsing Xenid died or melted. My other 3 corals are doing amazing. But i definitely need to upgrade because i am planning on adding more corals and anemone to it, just not with the equipment i already have and tank size.

Last option i have is this fluval evo 13,5. But it’s definitely smaller, it’s from the same seller. He’s also selling for an extra $10 some coral and anemones because he decided to quit the hobby

That Fluval is a nice little tank that many start with. Small, and you can't have a lot of fish, but you can pack it with cool inverts from corals to shrimp or anemones like Rock Flower Anemones, for example. The stock light can grow the easiest of corals, and there's upgrades available for the lighting and filtration. This might not be a bad way to go, honestly.

But if you want something larger, don't settle. If not right now, another system will come up for sale. If you think you'll quickly outgrow the Fluval, just skip it, or get it and when you find your dream tank, use the Fluval as a QT tank.

I will definitely skip it in that case, because i have 2 clownfish, 1 sexy shrimp, hermit crab, some snail and a yellow coral goby. Other than that I have 1 toafstool coral, clavularia (which has spread all over my rock) and calustrea. This month i was planning to add some anemones and probably 3 other corals.
And definitely wanted get other fish like a valentine puffer

The tank and stand look exceptionally clean, IMO the tank and stand alone is worth $200 if its as in good condition as it looks. The equipment and rocks look cheap I wouldn't want it, if you can convince him for $150 for just the tank and stand IMO its a good deal. Even though its not drilled, still many nice things you can do with that. But thats just me, I have 5 tanks and always thinking of the next lol
