I’m getting a jbj 30g which comes with dual return pumps (2 x 265 GPH). I’m new to saltwater and not sure how much flow I need. Do I need a power head and if so what are some good ones for this size tank?

Which JBJ are you getting? Throw up a link, please. Also, flow demands will depend on what you are attempting to keep and if you plan on bare bottom or not. Let us know how you plan on stocking the tank to better fit your needs.

I’m going to have about a 1-2 inch sand bed and I’ll start with LPS and eventually a BTA. To start I just want a pair of clowns and a clean up crew.

The 2 stock pumps will be for that. Make sure your lighting is sufficient. I had 2 jbj 29 that I run just the stock pumps. I had a few lps and 2 sps frags in one and the lighting was the key for keeping them healthy. My tanks were the old pc lights.

If you have a flexible budget a mp10 would be nice. If you don’t then you will be ok for awhile, you can get jebao powerheads for under 100. I have the sow series on my frag tank, they are alright for the money. Definitely not ecotech quality and dependability though.

I have a pretty mixed 13.5gal reef and i run two jebao pp-4s but i have a bare bottom and prefer high flow to prevent detritus resting anywhere inside the tank. i def recommend getting a solid wave maker even if on low to add more flow over stock return pumps but that's just me.

That’s the ancient version. Here’s the updated one with WiFi.

That is nice!
Would that be too much for a cube?
I just bought the old 1k a month ago for a 40b qt. I've been running it at 10 percent at night and 50 in the day. The tank is mixed with a lbta. The anemone took a while to get used to the flow at 50 percent. It moves some water!
Thanks for letting us know about that 2k. I have a softie 75g and was going to order another 1k. I like the bells and whistles of that new 2k!

I think you will be fine with that and your planned stock list. You can always add flow as needed. I think the 1K gyre would be a great option if and when you go that route.

I have a 30g and I run 1500/h at x50 my tank volume . Pump is a Hydor 1500. I have a 1" sand bed, 2 baby clowns that are pairing nicely and a small cuc ( 1 halloween hermit, 1 blue knucle, 4 smaller hermits and 2 snails with an emerald crab ) .
