gorgonian stay closed

Hello, i got a gorgonian which in can't ID 5 days ago, she looks purple, and the polyps won't show up, any idea why ? maybe she needs more time ? thx

Gm. I have similar gorgonians which are photosynthetic. Seems similar from pic but can’t tell. Parameters seem ok. I’d give it time. Mine have closed for a bit then opened up.

I think it looks good too. The nitrate is a little low, they like some nitrate so keep an eye on that. They like medium-ish flow, so check that. Otherwise I would just leave it and wait, I would not be concerned for now.

thanks guys, i'll keep an eye on it, nitrate and phosphate were high before i added a skimmer, tank is much healthier now. I'm a bit afraid to add nitrate in there

Probably just acclimating to your tank still. The photosynthetic gorgs like a lot of flow and light, more than you might think.

They also have a type of waxy coat that they develop on their skin and shed every few days, and can be closed during that time. Having enough flow helps them shed that mucus and return back to normal faster.

I have prilled urea, would that work in reef tank ?

Flow seems good, she's moving nicely, light is tricky, might have a lot of par, black box form china, 5 inch above 20" tank, 60% blue, 20% white, don't have a par meter though

Well, so far she looks like a bunch of tree sticks, i can see there is polyp in there but really closed. Not shinny like shedding leather coral

Sry. I just use a sodium nitrate solution when needed.

Hi, there is some update 2 weeks later, the polyp seems not out yet but they are ready to get out ?

My RO water had 0.06 ppm of phosphates, maybe it was the cause of increasing phosphates ? i now have di resin, 0 ppm

I've seen some kind of but not sure, not sure if it's shed stuff or algae, it looks more alive than 2 weeks before, back then there was no polyps form visible. As you can see, they are visible now, not out but visible

I also noticed some incrust on the glass, a weird white stuff that is hard to remove
