I found a Tamron 90mm on ebay dirt cheap, so I couldn't resist pulling the trigger. I'm pretty impressed with the clarity of the lens, but the fact that the tube extends for focusing is a bit annoying. I guess I was spoiled by the canon 60mm in that respect. Here's a few pics. Any critique is welcome!

Are all of these through the side of the tank? Most of those pictures look great with only a few of them a little out of focus. Out of curiosity, what did you get the lens for on ebay? What camera are you using? Good job, and they will only get better if these are your preliminary shots!

i like the detail you can get in the pictures!

one thing that intrigued me is this pic

Great pictures!! I use the Tamron 90mm macro exclusively and love it. Yes, the lens barrel does shift in and out, so it is a pain using a top down box to shoot, but there are ways to relieve the pain :)

I can't see which one you're talking about, but I've never had AEFW (knock on wood). My guess would be either dirty glass, or possibly a little bit of lost tissue from the red bugs I had a while back

Looking good.

Thanks everybody! This has definitely been a new hobby brought on by reefing. I bought the SLR for my wife for Christmas last year (but it was really for me). lol

Yeah, he's a vicious little clown. He's drawn blood on me a few times....If i get within a foot of any anemone, my hand is fair game. Pretty hard to avoid considering theres 3 RBTA, 3 GBTAs, and a maxi mini in my 180. He only hosts the biggest GBTA, but apparently feels the need to protect his vacation homes too. He was never really that vicious until I pulled out the Sabae anemone he was hosting about 6 months ago. It got to be about 14" across and was just taking up too much real estate.

Yeah, I'm definitely very happy with the lens. A significant upgrade from the 60mm Canon. After I read that review you posted in last month's POTM, I figured it was worth a shot.

ive been looking for into the differences between the 90mm and a canon 100mm and most are saying that the tamron is almost on par with canon. happy to see reefers using it with success.

btw heres the section i noticed
Untitled-1-1.jpg

it looks circular but might just be growth areas. not too sure. ive been watching my tank after red bug treatment too since some have suggested that they noticed aefw a month or two after red bugs

The pics are taken through the side of glass and were taken with an XSi body. I ended up getting the lens for $300 shipped and although it was used, it's like brand new. The body of the lens is mint, as is the glass, and there's a couple dust particles inside that the camera compensates for with ease. My only real complaint is the AF being loud & sluggish, but that isn't really an issue with tank shots seeing as I use MF.

For some reason, the pic didn't show up the first time, but I figured you probably meant the tricolor. The red bugs seemed to love that piece along with the green bottlebrush, so it's just a bit of die off from where they congregated and blocked the light. You should def. pic up this lens if you're looking for a good macro for a reasonable price. While the Canon does have its perks, you can't beat the Tamron for the price!

Here's a few pics to show just how much detail you can get. The first pics are the original shots and the second ones are cropped down. Some of them aren't the greatest shots, but I was still pretty impressed how much I could crop the images and retain detail
