How deep do you want the sand bed?

1-2 inches deep is what you may want to shoot for. Most people will tell you 1lb per gallon but not every tank has the same dimensions

There are some calculators online that have you plug in the length and width of your tank as well as how deep you want the bed and it gives you how many pounds you need. Just do a quick google search for "sand bed depth calculator" and the marine depot one is what I used.

You need to take into account some livestock that require a deeper sand bed. And some prefer finer sand as opposed to gravel.
