I built a sealed box with scrap acrylic
And 2 bulkheads a top and bottom
Installed valves on both
The lower port is piped 1/2" below the water level in my return reservoir
Close the bottom valve and fill the tank thru the top valve
Then close the top valve and open the lower valve
When you loose water from evaporation the water level will drop below pvc pipe allowing air in and water out. Replacing your lost water. once the water level rises the air can no longer enter and the vacuum seal is regained stopping the water flow.

Ryane,
When you "fill the tank thru the top valve" , would it not pressurize the box if it is sealed?

My ATO is gravity fed. I added a float valve in the sump and needle valve to reduce the flow rate to a slow drip in case the float valve fails. (It never has.) I also added a float valve to the top of the RODI reservoir. Then I just run a 25' water line directly to my RODI water filter and never have to carry any water or forget to turn it off.

Just grow it: Have you ever added CO2 to your reef tank?
