I purchased a decent size piece of green star polyp not realizing how temperamental it was. It would only open maybe an hour a day and any movement in the tank would send it hiding for hours. I want to have a nice grass bed on the substrate and was hoping the polyp would spread out. After several weeks with no results I returned to it to the shop. Any ideas on what else I can use to get the effect I want?

Not sure why you had so much trouble with GSP. I've had pieces out of the water for a week and it came back. How long has your tank been up and running for? Can you give us some info on your system?

10 gallon nano up for two months. Everything else is thriving. All levels are spot on. I heard green star polyps were hardy I've just had no luck..

They are hardy with the right environment
I use them as indicators in my tank :-)

I'd have to get the water tested again to know for sure but I know the water isn't sterile. I've got a barnacle that I've had for two weeks now and he's going strong. I figured if I could keep him alive a simple polyp shouldn't give me any problems. I tried different areas of the tank for water flow issues but nothing seemed to help.

Lighting is 8 inch led custom blue with two 3 inch white at 40% and red filter at 20% for color. Sounds weird but it really works for this size tank.

I do that at night for the cycle usually 12 hours on and 12 blue.

I also have the tank backlight with a tld blacklight 15 watt. Super nice effect.

I basically want this effect sans the polyp on the sand bed.

I have a piece of glass I could try to see if they would grow on it. Once it's covered I could just place the glass on the sand bed?
