Hello everyone!
Some of you might already have seen me chime in on various threads, but I figured it was about time to properly introduce myself.
Who I am
I'm a reef keeping enthusiast from Germany who somehow ended up falling into the rabbit hole of reef chemistry and microbiology. Despite having a degree in computer science and no background in chemistry or marine biology, I decided to teach myself as much as I can over the years.
Why I'm here
Pretty much immediately after starting my current tank, I wanted to learn more about the chemistry behind the various additives we dose daily, and I spent way too much time staring into a microscope, fascinated by all the tiny creatures that had appeared even before purposefully adding anything living to the tank. I've started reading a lot of articles, scientific papers, etc., but I feel like real learning requires talking to people with different backgrounds and experiences. This is why I'm especially interested in the Reef Chemistry and "Reef Hobbyist Experiments and Research" section of R2R, where I hopefully will be able to contribute to the community.
My current tank
I'm currently in the process of switching from a RedSea Reefer 625XXL G1 to a slightly customized Giesemann Linea Marine of similar size. I would love to own a larger system but for now this is about as far as I can push the structural integrity of my living room floor. The tank was started in 2020 with dry rock and dry sand and has been running very reliably, aside from an Aiptasia episode last year that took some effort to resolve.
Looking forward to being more active here and getting to know more of you!
