I really like that scape! Can't wait to see it come together!

So my aquarium is clearing up nicely, I tossed a shrimp in there to start the cycle, and already my ammonia is jumping up after about a day with that bad boy in there. I was just wondering what constitutes an "Ammonia spike". This morning I measured somewhere between 0.50 ppm and 1.0 ppm. Is this what i should be seeing? I am patient I understand the cycle takes a while, just curious what my numbers should look like. Thanks in advance!

Another addition, a little more DIY

In lieu of getting Loc Line which I may convert to down the road when I decide to start adding corals and things that may require more directive flow and what not, I threw this together. It cost $2.20 as opposed to the upwards of 16 dollars not including shipping for the loc line. consists of a Tee connector and two 45 elbows. For the nozzle I just fired up my gas stove and heated the end of a 3/4 inch pvc pipe and bent it into the nozzle shape. certainly makes the flow a little stronger then the wide open hole that I had for my return. Currently I have them pointed more upward to promote surface gas exchange.

I'm digging it!

Woke up to this growing in my tank, just want to make sure it's not a sign of something bad (looks like brown algae) my cycle isn't quite done so can't put anything in to stop it yet either...

Diatoms.....natural process and to be expected. You'll see lots more, but don't be discouraged. They usually leave just as quickly. Patience!
