The Grey-Head Wrasse is a colorful and energetic reef fish known for its soft gray head contrasted by vibrant body markings that can include shades of yellow, orange, and green depending on age and sex. Native to the Indo-Pacific, this active swimmer spends much of its time weaving through reef structures and sandy areas in search of small invertebrates. In the aquarium, Grey-Head Wrasses thrive in well-established tanks of 70 gallons or larger with plenty of rock for exploration and a sandy substrate for burrowing, as they often dive into the sand to sleep or hide when startled. They are carnivorous hunters, feeding on small crustaceans, worms, and other invertebrates, and should be offered a varied diet of frozen Gamma mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty marine foods. Generally peaceful but active, they do best with similarly sized community fish and plenty of swimming space.
