I have heard both locally and a few times when talking to people on the 'net that there are certain growth patterns for corals that you will ONLY see using LED lighting. The example I have that people are always referencing is the montipora I have on the left side of my tank. It was sold to me as a montipora capricornis at approximately 1" in size. I glued it to a rock flat thinking it was going to maybe encrust a little then start plating. However I got a totally different result on the growth pattern. It encrusted the rock then instead of plating it shot spires straight up toward the light. Only recently has it run out of rock to encrust and has started to plate... Representative picture below:
So I ask, what do you think about this situation? Do you think the growth is like this due to LED lights or some other reason? Do you think this coral was just horribly labeled and it is some other montipora?
