Gsp not opening

Hi, ive had my fish and gsp for 4 days now. Fish are doing great. My ammonia went up to 0.25ppm yesterday, today its back to 0, my nitrite is 0 and nitrate is about 5ppm.

I glued my gsp to the back glass. It hasn't opened once. I checked it at the shop and it was out, looked healthy. Very full polyps.

Any idea why? Is it just stressed? Tia.

Edit: the light is fine, the picture was taken while lights where dimming to turn off.

I would say that it is not happy with the current situation in the tank, and would guess that it would look like more light or better water quality than it is now in?

The lighting looks to be weak imo and tank looks like it is not mature enough for coral stability

That pic was taken when the light was dimming. Its definitely strong enough. When I got it home I just placed on the rock then a day later decided to move it to the back glass. Could it just be stressed from moving again?

Are you using an API test kit? It very often shows .25 ammonia, don't worry about it, in fact better to stop testing ammonia and nitrite at this point, we test those 2 for cycling only.

What kind of light do you have?

As mentioned, corals rarely do well in brand new tanks with brand new hobbyists.
Best thing is to just leave it alone so it acclimates to your tank, hopefully it will come around.

Yeah I am. Its a hygger saltwater light. Im using temporary until I can get a better one. But its rated for upto lps. Someone else said it took like a week for theirs to open. The tanks been running for like 5 weeks. My temp is 26°c and salinity is 1.026

Your tank looks super new, it's probably not ready yet.

GSP is probably the hardiest of all corals. Its more of a weed really, and very hard to actually kill.

I suspect it is just angry from being handled and moved. When I got my first piece it took it about 5 days before it started to perk up.

Do you know the wattage of this Hygger light? Just looking at the pictures it looks like it's really underpowered for the tank.

18w. But the gsp is like 8 inches from the surface. I only added the light a couple days ago.

That should keep the coral alive but if you want it to grow and thrive I would suggest a light around 50 watts will work much better, especially if you want to place corals lower down in your tank. Just my 2 cents good luck

Then maybe give it some more time to adjust now that it's lit. And I agree, I think you should be looking to upgrade that light

Definitely will upgrade when I get the cash. This one was like £30. I was looking at getting a nicrew 100w in 2 weeks
