Gently peal them off

Well yes, drying out the rock, or using bleach, would definitely kill them. But have you considered trading the rocks in at your LFS?

i had the rocks outside in the mid 80 to upper 90 degree tempetures since june 24. i just took the rocks today and scrubbed the hack of them and rinse them for an hour just to make sure theres nothing left on them. if theres still remenants of the gsp I hope it doesn't grow back if it does there out again and more scrubbing. I used a wired brush to scrub them to the bare bones.
