My first tank back in 1998 was a 65 gallon Oceanic. I was in college and spent money I barely had to get it. I fell in love with reefing and carefully placed my 10,000k bell shaped metal halide on a wall hanger and watched my frog spawn thrive!!!! It was easily the best tank I ever owned, I gave it away when I upgraded, unaware that Oceanic would soon sell and later dissipate as cheap Chinese built pieces of garbage would flood the market- yes all us Aqueon, red seal, fluvial, , top fin…. Etc owners.
I saw a listing on here for a climate controlled, “new” 180 gallon tank made in 2009- one of the last they constructed by Oceanic. I went to look at it and paid $1650 for the tank. This thing is a steal!!!! No center brace, rubbery - bouncy- high-grade silicon, 1” thick glass, never used, in the original crate, front glass is Starlight high grade glass. I can look through it from one end to the other and see like it’s bottled water. This is the last remaining new Mercedes-Benz glass aquarium!!!!! I don’t get a commission, but the dude still has one more.
this is a 50 year- never replace brick -life time tank. My only complaint, it weighs 500 lbs +
I consider myself lucky that I’ve reached through the past and grabbed onto the nostalgic tank made here in the USA with the best materials!!!! Did I mention $1650… a cuatom 180 tank with 1/2” glass would cost $3500 today.
