Dear Reef2Reef,

I’ve been struggling for the past month or two. Recently I started adding small corals to my aquarium, but I think I’m having issues with the flow. I even bought a second pump for my 34-gallon tank, but I’m starting to think it might be too much for a tank as small as mine (60 × 50 × 50 cm).

I’ve tried searching on YouTube and here on the forum, but flow seems to be a bit different for every tank. I’ve already tried most setups—placing the pump on the back, horizontally, vertically—but I still can’t seem to get it right.

Does anyone have any tips?

Kind regards,
Mitch

2 gyres in a 34 gallon is overkill, but I used to do it also, I had 2 in my 32 before I upgraded. The flow looks fine to me, everything is waving gently, nothing is being pulled to one side, to me it looks very good.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I’m still not sure if the flow in the left corner on the sandbed and around the torch is enough. I tried looking for a method where Pump A runs for about 10 seconds, then turns off, and Pump B starts, but I haven’t been able to find anything about that.

Right now the flow collapses in the middle of the tank, but I agree with you that some of the corals are moving nicely.
