I just walked in to my peppermint shrimp eating my hammer coral like it was an all you can eat buffet. I got this hammer about 2 weeks ago and it’s my favorite piece of coral. I had aiptasia when I started the tank up several months ago which was the reason for buying the peppermint shrimp. Is this a normal thing for peppermint shrimp? Any other ideas other than getting rid of the shrimp?

My peppermint shrimp have never even looked at my hammer. I had a brain that was receding and the peppermint shrimp ate the dead flesh off of it. Never touched any other coral.

Peppermint shrimp have a tendency to eat fleshy LPS. And once they develop a taste for it, it never leaves. I had 2 shrimp polish off a whole Euphyillia garden in less than 24hr. Your options are to:
Get rid of the shrimp
Get rid of fleshy LPS. (Acans, Torches, Frogspawn, Hammer, Blasto, Bubble coral.

-Zack, just sharing my handful of years with shrimp and Euphyillia

Okay thanks for the info. My hammer was small and cheap so if he goes after it again I will get rid of the shrimp.
