Can anyone tell what is causing tissue loss on the bottom of my hammer coral? The pic is taking at night with room lights on since your can't see the stalk during day.

Looks white/green. Bacteria? Fungus? Death of flesh?

Treatment options?

Thanks!!

FME, if the hammer is opening healthily, this is tissue moving upwards as the hammer grows. If your hammer isn't opening properly for the last several days and the tissue recession is occurring quickly, we'll need some water parameters.

SG- 1.024
pH- 8
Nitrates- 0 ppm
Phosphate- 0 ppm
Alk- 143.2 ppm KH
Ca- 400-420 mg/L (ppm)
Mg- 1500

I think that portion of the hammer is calcified. Looks like some type of algae growing on the calcified skeleton

This right here may answer the question.
Your no3 and po4 are 0?
It's starving and will have tissue recession from the bottom up due to the lack of nutrients.

Here is a pic a few mins ago as lights turn down. Looks good otherwise.

The tank is fallow for another 10 more days before introduction of fish from QT. I'm around day 60 of fallow.

Anyone else with suggestions? Definitely looks to be expanding. I'm referring to below picture? Should I try a coral dip of some sort? Pic again below at night when lights off and coral slightly retracted.

So the consensus is that this is either nutrient deprivation or algae on a calcified skeleton. Looks more like tissue loss to me.
