Hello all! Newer Reefer, here. I have a hammer coral with some protrusions on the trunk of the coral and am not sure what they are. In the photos one is only visible but there is a smaller one just next to this as well. The protrusions seem to open and close at the top where the spikes are (almost like a mouth?) and they do move (open and close) but aren’t “floppy” like the hammers tentacles are. I’ve looked up anatomy diagrams but don’t see anything regarding these protrusions. Does anyone have any idea?
Thanks so much for your time!

Looks like a toxic green paly. Common coral in tanks, and spreads quite rapidly. They do often hitchhike with rocks and other coral. They are good looking, but best left away from other corals and rockwork. Easy to get a razor blade under it and pop it off, and it can be relocated elsewhere in the tank. Put glue over where it was on the hammer to avoid it coming back.
I believe these are one of the more toxic palys, so you want to be careful with them at all times.

thanks everyone! The information is quite helpful, and is much appreciated!
