Hang on the back filter

I have a hang on the back filter for my 12 gallon FRAG tank currently it just has filter floss in it and I was wondering if there’s anything else I should be putting in the filter to better filter the water or just to help with overall reef health. I didn’t know if I should get carbon or something like that.

If you're having water clarity issues etc carbon won't hurt. But make sure it won't strip any good nutrients out of your water column.
If you don't have a lot of biomedia in the tank itself that's a good place to put some.

I have a lot of live rock in the back for biomedia. I might just try carbon
