Setting up a new 125. Purchased three Viparspectra 165w a month ago on an eBay flash sale, but still needed a mounting plan.
I really want to build a full hinged canopy that I can flip up, so hanging the lights with the supplied cables wasn't going to work. I also want to wait for my father in law to get back from Arizona in the spring, because he is an awesome woodworker and he would love to help with it.
I decided in the interim, I could make do with a hanging unit so long as it could be incorporated into a hinged canopy at a later date.
For lumber, I used red cedar for the lighter weight and superior rot resistance. For attaching the actual LED fixture to the frame, I saw in another build thread to use the screws that attach the two pieces of the box together using L brackets. I couldn't find small enough brackets in stainless, aluminum, or galvanized, so I used $.39 zinc plated with 2 coats of primer/paint. 1/8" galvanized wire rope, eye bolts, and D rings secure the unit from frame to rafters.
When (if) I get around to building the hinged full canopy, I can simply attach 1x12s to this unit, add a piano hinge, attach it to the wall, and trim it out.
