Make sure the reagent tip is clean. I have found out if the tip is not clean and old reagent is in the tip, that will give false readings. If you have done the test multiple time with a clean tip, then it is the reagent that needs to be replaced. I also toss the tip and just use a new syringe every time. I have also found when getting down to the last couple of tests the reagent tends to not work correctly. This does not happen all the time.
The other things is human error. Walk away and come back and test in a couple of hours. I also keep another test on hand in case this does happen to double check.
I found this out last week. The Hanna was reading 9 all the sudden and I started lower my alk, switch to new reagent solution and the alk read 7. I pulled out another alk test I trust and I was at 7 instead of 8 after lowering.
