Hanna CA checker - reliable?

I’m currently using the Red Sea CA test and I was wanting to try something else -

The more I look into the reviews of the Hanna CA, the more I see words such as unreliable and not being consistent.

What’s your experience?

It's reliable if performed correctly but unlike the alk and phosphate there's more steps to get your number.

Maybe my rodi has calcium in it but when I use the Hanna water the results are more consistent

Not in my experience. Results are all over the map +- 100 ppm. It's the only Hannah checker that I've found to be very inaccurate and I have a lot of them. Red sea pro is far more accurate and easy to use IMO.

the 2 or 3 times I cross checked with my Red sea pro kit, it was pretty much spot on.

what I heard goes wrong with the Ca kit is people using non perfect water for testing. you need perfect distilled water every test because it wants you to put 9ml of distilled water in the vial. another thing is the gen 2 kits come with a precision pipette for the tank sample water, whereas none were included with the older kits (kind of important as you need 100 microliters of water)

FWIW my review is with Gen 2 pipette and distilled water. Still no luck.

I had trouble 6 years ago with two of their meters. Sent them back for repair at my expense they were returned in the same condition. Thinking they have improved in 6 years I bought a Alk meter and have had no problems. Our local fish store is giving 25% off and I was going to buy all the ones I need.........
Now I am not sure I should. What would you experts do?

BRS did a good video comapring a lot of the checkers on the market, i really liked the phosphate one as they compared it to such a high level. would love them to compare all hanna checkers to this depth. i too want the CA checker as well as others. i currently have the phosphate and ALK.
Come on BRS how about an updated video!!
